We decided to embark on a two-day, one-night trek with CBT (Community-Based Tourism) in Arslanbob, and it turned out to be an adventure that I’ll never forget. Our guide, Rahmat, was incredible—fluent in English and brimming with knowledge about the surrounding mountains. His stories and insights brought the landscape to life.
We set out early in the morning with Hayat, Rahmat, a cook (whose name I, unfortunately, can’t recall), and the real MVP of the trip—a sturdy little donkey. The donkey served as our porter, carrying tents, cooking utensils, and all the food for the journey. Watching it steadily navigate the rocky trails made me appreciate its quiet strength.
A Village from Above
The trek began with a highlight: a stunning viewpoint that offered a bird’s-eye view of Arslanbob. From that vantage point, the village looked like a quaint little cluster of rooftops nestled among the walnut forests, framed by the majestic Baba-Ata Mountains.
As we continued, the trail led us through the famous walnut forests, with trees so ancient and towering that they felt almost sacred. The path was a gentle mix of ups and downs, surrounded by endless beauty—rolling hills, rugged peaks, and lush greenery. Every step felt like a scene out of a nature documentary.
Welcomed by Horses
Our first day ended at a breathtaking campsite perched on a ridge with sweeping views of the surrounding valleys. Just as we began setting up our tents, a group of horses wandered over, as if to welcome us. They stood quietly nearby, their silhouettes against the golden light of the setting sun making for a magical moment.
Not far from the campsite, there was a single house, standing in solitude against the vastness of the landscape. I couldn’t help but wonder how far away their nearest neighbors might be—it must be a life of quiet resilience and beauty.
Morning in the Mountains
The next morning, we woke to the soft glow of sunrise painting the mountains in warm hues. Instead of horses, we found ourselves surrounded by cows and sheep grazing lazily around our tent. It was a perfect pastoral scene, and the gentle sounds of the animals felt like nature’s morning alarm clock.
After breakfast, we continued our trek, and the views somehow became even more spectacular. Jagged peaks pierced the blue sky, and the valleys below seemed to stretch endlessly. Every turn revealed another visual feast—this was mountain trekking at its best.
A Grand Finale: The Waterfalls
Before heading back to Arslanbob village, we made a stop at two waterfalls near the village. Their roaring cascades were a refreshing end to the trek, and we took some time to soak in the cool mist and snap a few photos.
